Blood-Oil Thirsty US, Libya & Wikileaks (5-21-11)

(534 Obama-dumping days until 2012 election-Hugh's Obama's Scandals List)

Kevin Hall of McClatchy Newspapers reports that on April 20 the big Italian oil company Eni put off its deal with Gazprom, the big Russian oil company.

SCORE big and bloody for the US (and France). This has been a goal of the US for three years according to Wilikleaks documents claims Hall.

Hall discovered a confidential cable revealing that when Silvio Berlusconi was about to become the new Italian prime minister, he was being pushed to discourage Eni from helping Russian Gazprom’s interests in Libya.  Eni is 30% owned by the Italian government. Eni’s helping Gazprom to dominate Europe’s energy supply has been a thorn in the side of American corporatists and thus the US corporate-agenda-ed government.

The oil in the Caspian region is the prize.  Gazprom was going to partner with Libya and with Eni, the largest “player” there.  Libya had been a former Italian colony, after all.

Hall reveals that 1,800 Wikileaks documents mention Gazprom.  Russia is the largest producer of oil in the world but not the largest exporter.  Most of its oil and natural gas now goes to Europe.

The US is striving to change that profound and lucrative Russia/Europe connection.  If it can find a way to get an oil and gas pipeline of its own, the Europeans could become more dependent on the US corporations for their oil.

Hall points out, “We've seen how the Russians have used oil and natural gas against the Ukraine, against Georgia, against Belarus. So they've certainly shown their willingness to use oil as a weapon in their own strategic interest, you know, looking at it from their point of view.”

Eni, the Italian company, was also apparently beginning to invest in Iranian oil.  This must have been another major cause of distress to the US.  Eni had a history with Iran before the current Islamic government, during the days of the Shah. It lost a lot of money when the regime changed.

Eni is involved with both Russia and Iran in the oil business. How enraging to the US.

Enter France.  French Total has, according to Hall, “a small piece of the Libyan oil game, but I suppose they would like a bigger piece of it.”

France and the US are lusting for the Libyan oil and pipeline access against Italy and Russia.

France and the US would prefer a non-Gaddafi, not so friendly to Russia and to Italy regime in Libya.

Hall doesn’t go as far as calling it the causation of going to war with Libya, but he suggests there is certainly a “correlation.”

War with Libya?  A rather earnest, expedient, bloody, sociopathic way to gain corporate pipeline and oil advantage, n'est-ce pas?  Humanitarian intervention?  The profit-over-people ruling government and corporate classes know no shame.

Of the 250,000 documents the McClatchy team has gone through Hall declares that a full 10% of them have to do with oil.

Hall:  “And I think that tells you how much part of, you know, the global security question, stability, prosperity--you know, take your choice, oil is fundamental. ... As you keep going through WikiLeaks, we'll do more, 'cause this oil story continues into Latin America and other places. ...  It is all about oil.

War game on ... still.

Profits uber alles ... still.

Oil is not cheap, but to the war criminal ruling classes, human life certainly is.

Very informative. Gives me a strange feeling to know our government does all this awful stuff in our name - yet there's not a damn thing we can do to stop them. Must be something like waking up from anesthesia in the middle of your surgery.
oil makes the world go round and is a really key insight into secret world affairs.... its definitely *not* a conspiracy theory but the World Management Team works very hard to keep it that way....
