This from the examiner:
Google says Stein used "inappropriate language" in the ad and thus nixed it for placement on Google TV. SEE VIDEO HERE
The naughty word in question is a time-honored reference to a certain kind of manure, a word used so frequently among the public it has since blended into American consciousness as one of our most natural expressions – especially during the political season.
The word is partially bleeped, but Google executives still consider its viewing public too delicate to endure it – that amid an otherwise gentle, squeaky clean horde of campaign ads issued by Democrats and Republicans.
Apparently “Thou shalt not lie” gets a free pass from Google, while “Thou shalt speak in plain language” is forbidden.
Yes, in her first hopefully national tv campaign ad Jill Stein referred to “pandering irresponsible BULLSHIT that passes itself off as campaigning.” Then she explains that she can’t believe she has actually said that. It clearly expresses the outrage she feels about our national situation and the inadequate attention to real problems being given by the major candidates and their parties.
Her passion is fitting. She said it because it is the TRUTH and she honestly (how unique and refreshing is that from a candidate?) expressed how she feels and how most of America, not just the Greens, feel!!!! Anyone disagree that IRRESPONSIBLE PANDERING BULLSHIT is what is pouring out from both legacy political parties right now?
Now the Green Party campaign for Jill Stein is suddenly censored by Google, 1%er crony of the political machines. I’m thinking particular friend to the Dem one in this case.
So, after collecting pennies to end the ferocious media blackout aimed at Jill Stein and the Green Party, one more serious sling and arrow. Take no prisoners in soft-fascism-hardening-fast America! TAKE NO PRISONERS. (Ask the droner-in-chief about that particularly useful and vile strategy.)
This reminds me of the moment in Frank Capra’s “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” movie where the big gangsta media machine overturns all the rallying children’s little red wagons with the newsletters defending the piled on by corporate-cronied politicians poor Jefferson Smith (Jimmy Stewart) hanging onto his integrity as his reputation is being royally smeared, he is being made into both a national laughingstock and menace.
The “big boys” (including the big girls) continue to crony up and destroy the messengers.
The big boys and girls over at Google whose slogan has been “do no evil.” HAH!
If you are a 1%er corporation, can you not?
The Obama administration will be especially grateful for this one. That is good for billions for Google I am thinking, as if they need it. Obama shows his gratitude. Ask Goldman Sachs how much bang you get for your crony buck or for any favor that gets Obama elected.
How predictable in this age of slick Obama and slick Rove (of institutionalized evil like, say, torture) in using questionable technicalities to not even bother co-existing with philosophical and moral challenges. Don’t even bother defending yourself or acknowledging reality or God forbid basic morality. Use your cronyism to snuff out the messengers. Give them the punishment more suited for the punishers than the punishees. ANYTHING GOES!
The corporations who have economically raped America are snuffing out the voice of Green Party pro-people, -peace, -planet Jill Stein. Of course they are! One more Orwellian chapter.
Does anyone care? Other than Jill and us Greens? I guess we should just STFU and continue to endure our marginalization and disenfranchisement.
I mean any of you so-called progressives choosing Team Obama care or empathize on this one?
Jill Stein maybe not on your political team of choice. Anybody give a damn about this bullshit about her use of the word “bullshit” and the first amendment and double standardism?
Anybody care that her voice, so modest or, let’s face it, totally muted compared to the Romney and Obama tv carpetbombing and just plain old every day corporate 24/7 media, is being snuffed out?
Here is a letter from Ben Manski, Jill Stein’s campaign manager. I will print it in its entirety for the sake of both clarity and timeliness so I can post this quickly.
Last week, the Jill Stein for President campaign placed over a hundred thousand dollars worth of airtime on cable TV nationally and in select markets across the country. The ads are scheduled to air tomorrow, Tuesday through this Thursday, to raise important progressive issues key to our nation’s future that will not be discussed during the corporate-sponsored Democratic National Convention.
This morning, Google –which served as a broker for placement of our national satellite and cable television ad placements– informed Jill Stein for President that they were censoring the campaign’s ads due to “inappropriate language.” (The ads in question can be viewed here).
What Google does not seem to understand is that federal law prohibits broadcasters from censoring ads submitted by candidates for public office.
Because all primary advertising has to air before the close of the Democratic convention on Thursday, this is an extremely urgent matter. We urge all of our supporters –and any American who does not think corporations should have the right to censor political free speech– to contact Google at once:
Google Headquarters: 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043. Telephone 1-650-253-0000 Fax 1-650-253-0001
To contact Google’s Advertising Department toll free, call 1-866-2GOOGLE (1-866-246-6453) or email them with the form provided at https://services.google.com/fb/forms/ensales/
In the event that this censorship matter may not be resolved in time, we have quickly produced three other ads, “What Green Means,” that we can get on the air immediately, with your support. You can see the ads here. And if you donate now, you can vote on which one of them we should use.
Is there any energy out there for support for Jill Stein as a fellow American on this one? Or will, once again, gang-think cronyism prevail? Yawns and crickets all around?
At least remember to wave as the first amendment circles the bowl. Try to remember what and who small "d" democracy was supposed to represent.
Now, back to the big "D" tee-bee convention. No mention of the existence of a Jill Stein or a Green Party there. Obama as liberal (hah!) as the oligarchs with their tv propaganda will allow.

Yes, and I am not ashamed to say I will jump on the opportunity to blog about it. That does NOT negate the other points I am making. best, libby
There's a Russian hooker with pendulous breasts showing a small-ish triangle of off white panty in your center ad. Just thought you should know.. speaking of google ads and all : )
Karl Rove has a billion dollars to spend. There's two billion more, just waiting to fill the coffers of the media. No wonder Google wants its share of the pie, and they know who's got the money. Jill ain't got it. When this political season is over, the media will be so fat, that they probably can enough Twinkies to build a bridge to Saturn. Either that, or they will explode, just like Mr. Creosote, in Monty Python's Meaning of Life.
Actually, I find it amusing that the American public is so sensitive to a common expletive and totally callous to the brutality that has been commonplace out of the police, the military, the CIA and similar government organizations, and the avalanche of murder and torture that is standard TV fare even in kid cartoons.
Thanks for the update. I have notified Google what I think of them. I assume they will also censor my comments.
Google? Whatever happened to the open Internet. Google bullshit sometime and see how many hits you get. These guys built their fortune helping people find the porno sites of their choice. Bullshit, indeed. R
So Google is protecting us by upholding Standards of Good Taste and Decency. Thank heavens, otherwise we'd run out of smelling salts and fainting couches (as Digby lkes to say). Of course, Rush Limbaugh can call Sandra Fluke a "slut". Penn & Teller's documentary show ran for seven years on Showtime and was titled "Bullshit." I just googled "bullshit" and got 80 million hits but that's nothing compared to the 1.32 billion hits I got when I googled "fuck". Google was happy to supply me with that many shits and fucks upon request....
They bleeped Jill Stein's speech and STILL wouldn't even run the bleeped version?? I hope this matter does go viral and generate tons more publicity for Jill Stein. [r]

She is due her platform. Our media dominated culture has to place their stamp of approval on what is an approved party -- we need to challenge both of these tired old - can I say gas muzzlers? -- concepts and work to bring their ideas forward. This is what we need. The two major parties have had little true new ideas in these last 10 -15 years. Let's open the doors: we may learn something -- even improve this country.
We need to assimilate minority parties, hear their message.

Steven, I think of all that money pouring into the tv industry and about how over 1/3 of America lives in poverty and something is terribly wrong. No, Jill ain't got the bucks and morality just doesn't measure up to worthwhile communication. $$$$$ You write:

Jan, you get right to the heart of things!!! And when I met Dr. Stein, well, she is not one that freely tosses about titillating expletives. Which was the point of her uttering her disgust that way on the commercial. You wrote:

Peter, you are seriously plugged in. Thanks! I had to shake my head and wonder about google. All of us obsessively researching lefties. Did they really want to antagonize us like this? One wonders what was really happening behind closed doors and how fast it did get resolved. best, libby

I hope this will resonate more than tonight! About Stein and about corporate political bullying!

thanks, toritto! absolutely. We need a Jill Stein and Green party platform as part of the national conversation.
When the public option progressives iced out the single payer "Medicare for all" progressives and acted like we were the enemy it stunned me. I feel the Obama Dems are doing the same to the Green partiers and other third party folk. It goes against citizen interests, the divisiveness, but certainly works out for the 1% pulling the puppet strings. Team crony-gamesmanship pushed by the progressive media continues to divide us all and winning seems to trump what the actual moral and political issues are.
Actually faux-progressive media is so very insulting to pretend those people of conscience on the left even exist. Yes, tea partiers exist to them. BUT NOT passionate objectors on the left of the Obama administration! Pretty clear watching Dem convention coverage!

inthisdeepcalm, so appreciate your comment! watching the sentimental hoopla of the Dem Convention I realize how Stein speaks in terms of actual policy and commitments. Concrete and thoughtful plans to generate jobs, to reform health care, education, the economy! She addresses the issues of poverty and homelessness and corporate fraud and ruthless military imperialism!

Doesn't Google amass massive amounts of information on all of us, and sell it off to the highest bidder?
And they don't want any of the non-plutocracy approved candidates promoted? I can't say that it comes as a surprise.

This is somewhat off topic and I would be among the first to be delighted to see the Green Party slam it into the guts of the two fake political organizations that claim to present viable workable presidential candidates but my sense tells me that a Green vote ie merely a dramatic gesture with no reality. What is needed is something that might kick ass.
There is an article at:

Sean, yah got that right re Google. Google did back down which does show that there is leverage in consumerism and image. Though the Greens were giving them all that money and then turning the tables at the eleventh hour which probably was illegal and meant future messiness for them with leftie consumers. Wonder how they got strong armed to mess with the one hard won commercial for Stein.

Jan, thanks for the link. Interesting article! Though he/she praises Howie Hawkins and after meeting both Hawkins and Stein in NYC I think Stein's got the right stuff for the presidency. Hawkins did not have the social maturity to handle it all imho, though he was running for Governor not Prez. Would be better than corporate shill Cuomo, I'll give him that. Stein does have the stamina and the savvy and the capacity to both relate to real people and to speak to them in an effective way. It comes across immediately. And she is a doer and gets the forest and the trees at the same time it seems.
I appreciated these passages:
"In 2012, the US presidential election will once again be decided not on wants or needs but on fear. With neither candidate likely to gin up much energy for themselves based on program, personality, or merit, the election will go to the campaign that scares key voting blocs the most about the opposition.
"The prospects of selling Obama as the preferred candidate are daunting, if worth doing at all. With his proliferation of the national security state, his refusal to put juice behind the Conyers jobs bill, his water-carrying for the insurance companies and destruction of any near-term possibility for single-payer health care, his failures on card check and other labor law reforms, his refusal to treat Wall Street as a criminal enterprise, his embrace of reactionary education philosophies, his incursive black-ops foreign policy, and his ten o’clock scholar’s embrace of gay marriage, his is an administration not to praise but to damn."
Jan, he's got that right and says it all eloquently. It is tragic and there is so much betrayal during the Obama years. Why I call Obama the American Judas. Meanwhile this pep rally was re-playing Obama as the second coming as Patrick Martin of wsws declared!
And this resonated from that article:
"Let’s face reality: Obama is the worst Democratic president since Grover Cleveland. He’s a Wall Street enabler, and like his sorry predecessors, he’s let his agenda be determined by corporate pressure and far-right hysteria.
"Just because the worst scum in America want Obama gone, unions neutralized, and the shreds of the welfare state effaced is not reason in itself for the Left to mute criticisms and act the good soldier. The only sound justification given for backing Obama in 2008 was that he’d give the movements enough room and time to grow. We got neither.
"The reason that we don’t write off Democratic Party campaigns is that at the local level, anyone involved in any sort of community organizing or public-sector bargaining has to have a relationship with some elected officials. And that means visibly supporting them, even if critically. Either that or preparing primary competition. And when a mass left party emerges, it won’t be the expression of a rootless counterculture.
"But we’re not doing our allies any good by echoing the line taken by the AFL-CIO today, which is that the November election poses a choice between two economic worldviews. Would that it were. The real subtext is “Vote Obama: He’ll screw us less.”"
Stein is a good leader. The Green Party messes with my head sometimes, feeling a part of it, but I trust Stein and we need a strong leader. Rootless counterculture? I don't think we are so rootless after all these years. I think the sub-counterculture groups have gotta organize together under the same umbrella. I think the Green party with its history and general humanitarian platform globally brings promise and a paradigm shift and can serve as that umbrella.
I also believe in the 100 monkeys theory, when 100 monkeys grasp reality then the whole monkey nation gets it. In America we are getting closer to the 100th monkey!!! God, I can't believe how long it is taking! Though look at how many Vietnamese had to die before Americans finally got it. And I think Walter Cronkite was the 100th monkey. When he called out the war, the jig was up somewhat for the military industrial security complex. Well, the security part has been added since then.
As I watched the Dem Con first night I was appalled. Michelle trusts Barack so we should? Is that what they have to sell him? And he saved the auto industry, bullshit. He lost the auto industry their benefits and their wages for the ones hanging onto jobs got slashed in half. Can't believe he is taking a bow for that. He helped the auto industry aristocracy, the 1 percent, screw the workers with the help of the betraying unions.
And listening to Michelle talk about how much they care about military families. After the war crimes and war proliferation, how do they manage to look in the mirror? Those soldiers aren't defending us! They are waging pre-emptive wars for corporate profiteering. they are sowing the seeds of such profound anti-Americanism for decades, maybe centuries. As for killing Osama bin Laden, we are using Al Qaeda, arming Al Qaeda in Syria to bring down the Assad regime cuz we want to get Iran. There is no principle, no honor. Just gamesmanship. Evil gamesmanship and disrespect for human life. Profound disrespect. Where is the media on this stuff? Oligarch Puppetland! Hypocrisy? We need a stronger word for it.
Can't wait to see the razzle dazzle of the next two days of the Convention. Clinton and Obama? Lots of charming rhetoric, underneath major betrayals!
And meanwhile Hillary running around the world like Lady MacBeth!!!

What strikes me as most peculiar is the behavior of the labor unions and the people within them. Normally it is these people who represent the spearhead of reform for decency and logic for those sectors of government devoted to seeing to it that the wealth of the country empowers security and health and education and dependable service to all the people who are in dire need of help and support. The USA has always been a country where the scoundrels have raped the environment and filthied the ecology and destroyed the beauty to line the pockets of the powerful and see to it that the general public was kept in debt and fear and as close to poverty and subservience as the law would permit. High unemployment was always a goal of the powerful so that fear of losing jobs and security was the main club in controlling the populace. Something essential and vital has been lost with the atmosphere of distrust and contempt for labor unions and the unwillingness of labor to even undertake mass violence to see to it that they got a reasonable slice of the pie. I seriously wonder if the corporate dragons have planted their agents within the unions to subvert them.
hey Jan, just got a sec. I agree re unions. When I heard Trumka speak I thought he might have the right stuff, but he turned Obama crony fast.
It doesn't have to be mass violence. Just mass organization. Solidarity for God's sake!!! Think Gandhi.
Look at what happened to the African miners some slaughtered for striking. It is global, the war against the working class. Our working class in US seems to get its radar jammed by the teebee and over-identifies with the aggressors against them. fight against their own interests.
You know I once wrote a blog or something in a blog about how I hated that lottery payouts were so huge (you know that is benefitting someone else). Do you know people came after me from all directions as if any moment they would win the big payout and they didn't want to share it and I was a threat to them. Geeeeesh. $24 million say to one person or give $1 million to 24 people? Who decides that???
i have been reading about the narco-industrial complex re US and Mexico. who are the politicians and who are the gangstas? you really need a scorecard, so to speak.

Libby, that is too bad...and they talk about freedom and democracy. I think that stating this issue in Facebook, a reaction can be created. Here in Greece an elected party, was created through Facebook, no ads in The TV, or in radio, just social media, Facebook, Twitter, linkedin, Utube, and by alive talks of the leader of the party .
Best wishes to Jill, I have shared the link to my FB.
Best wishes to Jill, I have shared the link to my FB.
Libby, we finally saw Jill on the CURRENT station. They have a tough niche to carve out, pitted against MSNBC. But these guys are not sitting on the ready knee jerk response. They have hit Obama and Romney both.
Jill came across as an open, strong, no nonsense kind of person -- reminding me of Elizabeth Warren -- the kind of candidate that has fresh ideas, that ready openness, which we need.
Bring it on -- she ought to be part of the debates. What in God's name are the media-ignoranta afraid of? A more challenging exchange of ideas? Let this happen. Thanks for advocating so strongly for the Green: some day they may have the heft of the Green Parties in Europe. We have to grow -- somehow ....
