INTRO-Syria Loses InfoWar To Morally Unhinged US/Israel/NATO (7-18-12)

Okay, my first selected title of this blog was a tad too long but let me repeat it here:
“Blood-Bathed Syria Loses Info War To Serial Deceit of Morally & Militarily Unhinged (But Murderous) US/Israel/NATO”
Fasten your seatbelt if there’s the remotest chance your mind and heart are open to reality re the latest amoral outrage going on in Syria. It’s going to be a bumpy ride. Of WW III proportions. (I wish I were being hyperbolic.)
“We’ve seen this movie before,” one of the dozen or so HONEST journalists I have been reading in the past few days reminds.
The reality makes me want to once again reach for the vomit bucket while ruing the off the charts cynical amorality and murderousness of the governance of our country, the allied NATO nations and Israel, of the enabling of so many corporate media outlets (though we all know now only about half a dozen mega-corporations run global media) as vastly powerful and indispensable propaganda tools, and of the enabling of a large majority of unaware and UNBELIEVABLY still gullible US and world citizens who seem to have learned NOTHING from getting so profoundly played already by the Iraq WMDs schtick!!! (Keep your ears open for more and more words about Syrian stockpiles of chemical weapons. It really works so handily every time, now doesn’t it?)
What it comes down to is there is more and more mounting evidence (not ever cited in the mendacious echo chambers of bang the drums loudly corporate media) from alternate non-faux-progressive cyber-media, those still not lusting after access to status quo power and not sipping the corporate kool-aid, that the agenda of REGIME CHANGE in Syria is ILLEGITIMATE!!! The “regime change” mantra is hypnotically being imposed 24/7 using bullshit HUMANITARIAN posturing by these MURDEROUS US/Israel/NATO leaders (I am sorry but that word keeps cropping up) who are shameless with their “say-anything” “ends justifies the means” “might makes right” induced modus operandi. It is they who are willing to launch and encourage for very non-humanitarian ends a Syrian civil war bloodbath. Disaster capitalism one more time. Don’t think for a moment that diplomacy is ever or will ever be on the table. China and Russia watch your backs!!! These addictively ambitious bullshitting anti-humanitarians are coming after you, too. WW III? Why not to addicts so very lost to their addiction.
Thousands of people have died and will die from these international oligarchical-willed, opportunistic war games for WORLD HEGEMONY. Syria is just the next country on the bloody clipboard. Again, war addiction is so all-consuming to the, okay, one more time, (and one more time) MURDEROUS DECIDERS of the fate of a large segment of the family of man and woman and child.
Is there no one to shout out "WAFM!!!!" (translation for anyone who might not savvy that: "WAIT A F*CKING MINUTE!!!") -- not even Kofi Annan -- about what is going on? The faux-progressive MSNBC crowd all too worked up attacking pathetic Mitt Romney to really give a rat’s you know what about us enabling genocide and factions in the Middle East who were affiliated with Al Qaeda and now supposedly our BFF – NO, NOT forever, but until their usefulness wears out for DRUM ROLL PLEASE – REGIME CHANGE -- a/k/a faux-humanitarian intervention from a bunch of war criminal nations that deserve regime change themselves.
So a serious number of our protesting Syrian rebels actually are imported thugs who killed American troops in Afghanistan or Iraq. (I will address Tony Cartulucci's disclosures on this in an upcoming blog, among other powerful revelations from others about the grotesquely horrifying shenanigans going on perpetrated by Obama et al.) Yes, we’re into Syria now, and the US, Israel and NATO (US and NATO actually doing the heavy-lifting as Philip Giraldihas pointed out) require actual recent US/NATO enemy terrorists (killers!) for the purpose of Syrian regime change. Accountability doesn’t count, anyway. Nor does reality. The devastating ends justify any CRAVEN AND WAR CRIMINAL means! Important for the guilty to lie, lie, lie to their citizens one more time.
PROPAGANDA, PROPAGANDA, PROPAGANDA. Style not substance. VILE STYLE not remote respect for substance. Obama is assuredly looking forward not backwards to his new world order of domination and exploitation. No moral compass there. Nor with his brothers and sisters in crime, especially one Hillary Rodham Clinton doing her world tour for their craven World War III bullying blackmail or possible play-out (not that WW III hasn't already started for anyone paying attention). Mrs. Clinton, btw, with all the faux-righteousness of the best academy award winning actress offered. (Sigourney, take notes!)
I am organizing so much heartbreaking contradictory material to the faux-reality being served up so cravenly and cavalierly by the corporate media and the bullshitting governmental operatives re Syria taking us down that same Iraq War garden path. I felt compelled to launch MY blowback tonight for this incredible EVIL bullshit being fed to Americans struggling with their own hard reality that these shameless war addicts simply don’t have time, empathy or OUR very own taxpayer money to help with.
TO BE CONTINUED!
---------------
Hold on a minute, Libby, while I finish with the sick bag.

Believe it or not, there is a silver lining here. Tony Cartalucci at Land Destroyer has just done a great article about the specific corporations behind regime change in Libya - which I reposted at my blog. The CIA has been pulling this shit since 1954 when they overthrew the Guatemalan government. By the 1960s, people on the left had a vague idea that United Fruit was behind this, but no one clearly understood the links between Wall Street and the CIA. Cartalucci breaks it all down - simply by identifying the corporations represented on the board of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) - the CIA funded foundation that brought us the Arab Spring.

Even with Libya, a lot of us (including me) couldn't quite figure out how we were being duped until we started seeing al Qaeda operatives on the ground. In the case of Syria, Russian and Chinese opposition is making the whole thing happen in slow motion, so we can actually see what's really going on in blow by blow detail. One thing you have to admire about Putin (whose basically a glorified KGB thug) is the man's testicularity. The Russians have got oil and gas and practically no debt. They're holding 3 aces, and the only possible thing Obama could threaten them with would be sabotaging the price of oil. And thanks to insatiable Chinese and Indian demand, there's no way he can make that happen.
Libby, I am waiting to see some factual references (and I have to exclude the allegations by Cartalucci from that category). You devote a long blogpost here to the gullibility and culpability of the media, who we all agree anyway are in it for the money. Exactly what the motives of Israel, the US, and NATO are I am still in the dark about, because it lookeed like everyone concerned was pretty OK with the status quo, i.e., stability on the Golan and Iraq border. I am very concerned about Syria, having some close personal ties to people there and much affection for the country. Please continue, but do try to add some objective clarity and not further obscurity to what seems to be a very murky situation.
I meant regime change in Libya AND Syria.
Ordinaryjoe, Ahmed Bensaada and Michael Barker provide extensive documentation regarding Cartalucci's claims regarding the NED. Unfortunately checking out these references might require reading some books on the subject. Claiming something isn't documented because it isn't on line is just plain silly.

Although Bensaada's Arabesque is in French, most of his detailed references are in English. Barker bases a lot of his work on William Robinson's Promoting Polyarchy and Frances Stoner Saunders' Cultural Cold War. These are classics in the field of CIA foundation funding and you really need to familiarize yourself with them.

Here's a link to one of Barker's articles on the subject: http://www.swans.com/library/art14/barker03.html
The full title of Bensaada's book is "Arabesque Americaine." Here's a link to his website, which has all his most recent articles http://www.ahmedbensaada.com/
I am not comfortable with the Syrian regime change thing, which is clear evidence of a huge vacuum here -- and not far away, too -- with the spin off of other rumblings. I do not know if we are appearing to be involved or not. The defections are increasing; but where is the real leadership here? I do not like the aroma here. We are very quiet, without the definition of goals and expectations of what is right.
Where are the lights of the free world here?
"Unfortunately checking out these references might require reading some books on the subject. Claiming something isn't documented because it isn't on line is just plain silly."

Doctor, dear condescending doctor... did I say I didn't find something online? Since you are such a careful reader, you should also be able to show me where in Bensaada's website he has written something about Syria, because even though I read French perfectly well, I don't see it.

As for Cartalucci's article that libby referenced, he seems to have fallen into the generalization trap of most other propandist/journalists by seizing on the case of Fares. The Assad regimes employed thousands of thugs who were willing (sometimes not so much but were easily coerced) to carry out all sorts of disgusting acts against their own citizens or anyone else in the world the regime and their puppet masters decided to attack.

As I said, I will read anything else with an OPEN mind.
Yes, Stuart, thank God Russia and China are counterpointing what US, France, UK, Israel and NATO are working at! Doesn't feel all that slo-mo, though, since 10,000 people have died already in Syria. The fauxness of the humanitarian intervention is already clear! Will check out your link. Thanks!

Ordinary Joe, I got so disgusted by the NewsHour tonight that I decided to post the draft of my intro full out, without distilling it. I will followup, but before that here are some quotes that may help.

Inthisdeepcalm, there is indeed an aroma with all this. The stenographer corporate media no longer vets the truth for us. They just toe the corporate party line. What happened with Libya was fast and furious. Syria promises an even bigger bloodbath of a civil war but the US, Israel and NATO don't care how much death and destruction happens, they can benefit from the disaster capitalism bottom line, just create economic exploitation opportunities stepping over the dead bodies and rubble of infrastructure.

Here are some quotes that support my contentions. I will continue on with this blog in the next couple of days.

Alex Newman

"Yet another alleged "massacre" of "civilians" by the Syrian regime was in the establishment-press headlines this week, supposedly a brutal killing spree by dictator Bashar al-Assad’s forces in the village of Tremseh that left up to 250 people dead. As has become typical, Western governments and mainstream media outlets — the New York Times, the BBC, and others included — parroted anonymous “opposition activists” for the claims. But within days, after foreign powers seeking regime change had their chance to beat the war drums even louder, the carefully constructed tale was already falling apart.

"U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, one of the top defenders of the dangerous “rebel” coalition operating in Syria at American taxpayer expense, immediately claimed there was "indisputable evidence that the regime deliberately murdered innocent civilians" — “over 200 men, women and children,” in fact. She did not present or cite any of the alleged evidence, but vowed to punish those responsible amid more calls for immediate regime change. Other Western leaders and financiers of the violence in Syria issued similar condemnations and more threats.

"Despite hysterical reporting and wild statements by political leaders, however, even “opposition activists” were conceding early on that most of the dead were actually armed combatants who had staged attacks on the regime’s military forces. More recent reports, even those based on anonymous “opposition activists,” also suggest that closer to 100 people had died. Almost all of the dead were military-aged men, too — a far cry from Clinton’s “over 200 men, women and children.”

snip

"One problem, according to analysts, is that the Free Syrian Army (FSA) is consistently discussed using deceptive terminology. “From the U.S. State Department and outward through its tentacles across the corporate media, the so-called ‘Free Syrian Army’ is continuously referred to interchangeably as ‘civilians’ and ‘activists,’” noted analyst Tony Cartalucci, who has followed the conflict closely. “In reality they are heavily armed, foreign-backed, and include amongst their ranks a sizable proportion of foreign fighters — betraying the very name Free ‘Syrian’ Army.”

"Cartalucci called the deceptive mainstream-media reporting and the dangerous Western war-mongering against Syria an example of “Goebbelsesque propaganda.” Numerous other analysts criticized the lies and propaganda as well. And it is hardly the first allegation of a “massacre” conducted by the Syrian regime to crumble upon closer scrutiny."

Richard Silverstein

"July 14, 2012 "Information Clearing House" -- Syria appears to be entering an even more chaotic and dangerous period in its civil war now that Israeli officials are concocting potential threats that must be addressed by Israeli intervention. The latest series of stories derives from U.S. and Israeli intelligence circles and suggests that Syria has a “vast stockpile” (Wall Street Journal) or “hundreds of tons” (Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News) of chemical weapons that could fall into the hands of Al Qaeda, Iran’s ayatollahs or God knows who, should Bashar al-Assad’s regime fall. Naturally, Israel would have to protect its interests and intervene to prevent this from happening:

"Hundreds of tonnes of Syria’s stockpile of deadly nerve gas could fall into the hands of terrorist groups if the regime of Bashar al-Assad falls apart amid widening concerns that Israel could go to war to try to stop this ‘Doomsday threat‘.

"The fact that this would give Israel a further opportunity to tweak its Iranian enemy and ensure the installation of a pro-Israel puppet regime in Syria would of course be entirely incidental and unintentional."

From RT:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/

"Syria is sliding back into violence after a UN-brokered peace plan failed to bring the rival forces in the country to negotiation table. The worst of the incidents of renewed bloodshed were two massacres of civilians in the villages of Houla and al-Qubair.

"Opposition blame the killings on pro-government paramilitary forces, while Damascus says both incidents were provocations carried out by terrorist groups. The UN observer mission currently deployed in Syria failed to establish for certain who committed the atrocities.

snip

"The conflict in Syria has been raging for 15 months now, with the exact death toll difficult to establish. UN estimates that about 10,000 people have been killed in the violence.

Niall Green:

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2012/jul2012/syri-j14.shtml

"Reports of scores of deaths in the Syrian village of Tremseh Thursday, in the course of violent clashes between government forces and opposition militia, have been seized upon by the United States and its allies to ramp up their campaign to overthrow the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

"In a press statement issued Friday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asserted that the Syrian regime had carried out “yet another massacre,” claiming there was “indisputable evidence that the regime deliberately murdered innocent civilians.”

"However, no sooner had the US-sanctioned account of events been released than it fell apart. Syrian opposition spokesmen had initially claimed that pro-Assad militiamen had entered the village and killed unarmed civilians. They then claimed that the Syrian army had carried out a rampage aimed at civilians. But it quickly became clear that almost all of the deaths were the result of fighting between government troops and foreign-armed anti-Assad militia.

snip

"The alleged massacre in Tremseh is the latest example of the Obama administration’s cynical use of “humanitarian” justifications for its increasingly bloody intervention into the Syrian conflict. Following a well-established pattern, the US media swung into line on Thursday, promulgating uncritically the administration line on the events in Tremseh and largely ignoring the evidence contradicting the official pro-war propaganda.

"In May, Washington similarly seized on accusations of a massacre of 100 people in the village of Houla. At that time, Clinton used the killings to undermine the ceasefire plan being negotiated with the Assad regime by UN envoy Kofi Annan. Following the Houla “massacre” the US-backed FSA repudiated the Annan plan on the grounds that the Syrian government had used the ceasefire to carry out the attack.

"As subsequently revealed by the leading German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, but almost completely ignored by the rest of the Western media, multiple eyewitness accounts of the killings in Houla reported that the massacre was actually carried out by FSA fighters who had targeted minority Shiites, Alawites and Christians who had refused to join the Sunni-based opposition."
Ordinary Joe, Stuart, Inthisdeepcalm, this from wsws by Bill Van Auken:

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2012/jul2012/syri-j19.shtml

"The use of suicide bombings, including previous attacks such as the May 10 twin suicide car bombings that killed 55 people outside a Damascus military intelligence building, point to the growing role of Al Qaeda-connected militants who have flocked to Syria from elsewhere in the Middle East.

"The terrorist attack on the heart of the Assad regime occurred as fighting raged on for a fourth day in the Syrian capital. Since Sunday, Damascus, which had previously been spared the armed conflict engulfing other parts of the country, has seen sustained exchanges of gunfire involving the use of tanks, artillery and rocket-propelled grenades.

"The International Committee of the Red Cross on Sunday declared the Syrian conflict a civil war. “We are talking about a non-international armed conflict in the country,” the ICRC office in Geneva declared.

"The chief of the UN's humanitarian affairs office followed up the Red Cross declaration with a statement Monday warning both the government and the “rebels” that “directing attacks against civilians constitutes a war crime.” Valerie Amo, the UN undersecretary for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief, stated: “The escalating conflict in Syria is having a devastating physical and psychological impact on hundreds of thousands of people. As the International Committee of the Red Cross has now described the situation as an armed conflict, international humanitarian law applies across Syria in areas where there is fighting.”

"The statements underscore the propaganda character of the reports in the mainstream media, echoed by pseudo-left elements internationally, portraying the Syrian conflict as a one-sided massacre perpetrated by the regime against its own people. In reality, a coordinated campaign by Washington, its European allies and the US-backed monarchies of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states has fueled a sharp rise in violence by sectarian-based militias, which have been armed, financed, trained and “advised” by these outside powers.

"According to debka.com, a web site with close ties to Israeli intelligence, the widening scope of military operations by the so-called “rebels” has been possible because “Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have substantially stepped up the flow of munitions to the rebels.” Debka.com added, “They are reaching combatants inside Syria as well as the trainees at Turkish military facilities.”
Similar training is also taking place in Jordan.

"The Free Syrian Army has been “equipped with hi-tech communications connecting the provinces and linked to the FSA’s high command in Turkey,” debka reported. It noted further: “A foreign 'military adviser' is posted at each provincial command center. They are usually special forces experts mainly from the British, French, Turkish, Saudi and Qatari armies.”

"In a display of brazenness and hypocrisy, the major imperialist powers have invoked the violence that they have promoted as a pretext for even more direct foreign intervention in Syria. British Foreign Secretary William Hague Wednesday issued a formal condemnation of the suicide bombing in Damascus, only to insist that the attack “confirms the urgent need for a Chapter Seven resolution of the UN Security Council on Syria.”

"US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told a Pentagon press conference that the bombing showed the situation was “spinning out of control” and underscored the need for the “international community” to “bring maximum pressure” to force Assad’s ouster.
In Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel chimed in, declaring that the bombing “shows us that it is high time to ratify the next UN resolution.”

"Such a Western-backed resolution was to be brought before the Security Council Wednesday afternoon, before the UN's special envoy and former secretary general Kofi Annan asked for a postponement of the vote until Thursday. The council has until Friday to authorize the extension of the UN observer mission in Syria put in place as part of Annan's peace plan.

"Annan is attempting to broker a compromise between the Western powers, on the one hand, and Russia and China, on the other.
Russia, which has been historically allied with Syria, has put forward its own proposal for a 90-day extension of the observer mission, but has vowed to veto the resolution sponsored by the US, Britain, France and Germany invoking Chapter Seven.

"Chapter Seven of the UN Charter authorizes the 15-member Security Council to take actions ranging from economic sanctions to military intervention. The same section was invoked as the basis for a UN resolution on Libya that then was used as the justification for the US-NATO war to overthrow the Gaddafi regime. Russia and China allowed the passage of the Libyan resolution by failing to utilize their veto power, only to see their own interests in Libya sacrificed in the war that followed."
"faux-humanitarian intervention from a bunch of war criminal nations that deserve regime change themselves."

Wow, that's a powerful truth. I'd never thought of it that way before but yes, we need regime change before anyone else. Disaster capitalism is a hideous solution to a non problem for the bulk of the world's population, but, it's what's keeping the MoneyPower in both money and power. Now Syria, well, I guess we need a constant stream of enemies. We will start a world war then the war addicts will be happy, only those who are maimed, dead or bankrupted will be unhappy. Strange to think the last one was not so long ago, and yet, we've already forgotten.

History does not honor excuses and justifications for horrors, they are only valid to those using them in the present. History will be very, very unkind in recording the actions of the US, future Americans will carry a stain for a long time. As far as the present, our National Karma must be very bad, it's hard to believe we will be rewarded or have any prayers answered. If that's how it works, we may well have a future of getting what we have earned, hopefully that's not how it works.

Some days it all seems very surreal, as if none of this can be happening because it's completely insane. We all have to pretend everything is fine, when really, nothing is fine. Lunatics are running every nation, a large portion of the worlds population is impoverished and their numbers are growing and not shrinking, people are being bombed by futuristic drones by someone pushing buttons far away, the ice caps are shrinking, the oceans are toxic, the planet is gasping. And we all are supposed to pretend that in some magical way someone will save us and it will all be okay.

Do you ever wonder how long people will be able to pretend it will magically become okay? I think they will not be able to pretend for much longer Libby. I have a strong feeling people are about to have a few rude awakenings.

Rated with sorrow and apprehension.
Bleue, thanks so much for getting it and sharing about it!

The more I research what is going on in Syria the more appalled I am. Western media hysterically blames the Assad regime military, granted no angels, and come to find out, it is often really the terrorist rebels (including Al Qaeda jihadists) being staked by the US and those dictatorships like SA or Qatar who are our buddies, along with the CIA and their old assets WHO ARE THE PERPETRATORS. But Western corporate media are pure stenographers for propaganda. They aren't air brushing reality, they are Owellianizing it, black is white, and up is down!

So they LIE LIE LIE. Children getting their throats cut makes a good story on CNN except except except ... OUR bastards did it. But good for propaganda purposes if they call out the other side shamelessly or stupidly. The BBC even put up a picture of children corpses that turned out not to be victims of Syrian army but from Iraq in 2003. Oooopsie! BBC helps its Brit government sponsor with propaganda. Well, hell, so does the NYT and CNN over here. Along with everyone else, MSNBC, etc.

Disaster capitalism is when you hope a citizenry kills each other off and becomes so weak the bully countries step in to take over the resources and power.

Wesley Clark revealed a long time ago Syria was one of the 7 countries on the Bush administrations hit list. Obama never changed the clipboard, sadly and treacherously. He is so much the American Judas and Hillary is out there playing Lady MacBeth!

I appreciate this:

"History does not honor excuses and justifications for horrors, they are only valid to those using them in the present. History will be very, very unkind in recording the actions of the US, future Americans will carry a stain for a long time. As far as the present, our National Karma must be very bad, it's hard to believe we will be rewarded or have any prayers answered. If that's how it works, we may well have a future of getting what we have earned, hopefully that's not how it works."

Churchill said Americans always do the right thing but only after they have exhausted ALL other alternatives! I have lost faith even in that at this point!

Yes, vote for Jill Stein for regime change from our corporate oligarch captured legacy political parties!

Bleue, so well said:

Libby, this is such a strong reality, and your words are my minimal social understanding, that..

"..to the faux-reality being served up so cravenly and cavalierly by the corporate media ..struggling with their own hard reality that these shameless war addicts simply don’t have time, empathy or OUR very own taxpayer money to help with''

Democracy to me, means warless peace, and if so many ΡΗD's can not find the solution in dialoque, discussion, laws, justice, humanity, well, I am wondering how did we all manage to be out of the cage era. If civilization, is not enough reason to be civilized, then what...

Excellent work, Libby, thank you for the informative article.
Whether or not the US is now the Evil Empire, the Syrian events still don't add up for me. Things are moving quickly and I think the situation is very fluid. I have no doubt that the CIA and KGB are both using the massive assets they have built over the decades in Syria, and Israel must also see this as a decisive moment to defang Iran and Hizbollah without using nukes. Thanks for the info libby, and especially for not inferring that I am weakminded for not seeing things the same way you do.
Libby I am also skeptical but to be honest with you I don't support these tyrants either. I think reform in the most effective manner possible should be implemented and they should start at home. If they can't allow reform here then they shouldn't be involving themselves overseas where they have a history of doing more harm than good and actually creating the problems they pretend to be opposed to.

And of course they do everything in secrecy. But it is hard for me to imagine that these tyrants are completely innocent as some would imply. Although in the case of Chavez and Castro they come much closer than I have believed at times in the past but of course there are some legitimate problems with them to although some of them were in response to inappropriate activities by the US.
Olga, how great to see you again! Thank you. So well said:

The big lie is that the ones professing to be fighting terrorists ARE TERRORISTS! The collective ego of America and other murderous-rationalizing nations like it had better catch up with that one or we are all as the family of men, women and children doomed!

Joe, the Syrian events do not add up. NO. There is so much lazy but loud and Pavlovian propaganda going on.

But we have been so burned before by propaganda that was so outrageously based on lies, it is more than likely it is happening again, and there is evidence out there that it is. Russia way back in April iirc willing to help with a diplomatic transition to ending Assad's reign. But NATO and US want disaster capitalism opportunism. They want the bloodbaths, hang the citizens. They want to get their puppet in their and neutralize Iran's allies, and therefore Iran, and I guess Russia and China's allies for their own imperialistic exploitation agenda. They are willing to use the jihadists to kill whomever they choose to if the ends will justify the means!!!

When you look at the innocent citizens displaced or killed in the name of cynical "humanitarian intervention" it boggles the mind and heart.

I am not apologizing for Assad or Russia, putting the white hat on them, I am pulling it off the US and NATO and Israel! It does not belong there. There is evil going on. There is betrayal of humanity BIG TIME!!

best, libby
Zackd, I don't support Assad, the tyrant. But neither do I support economic and military terrorism now being used by the US, NATO and Israel. Not just recently being used. Look at the past wars. Those garden paths paved with LIES, LIES, LIES. More propaganda!!!

Yes, Zackd, you speak of sanity not exploitation and disaster capitalism!

"I think reform in the most effective manner possible should be implemented and they should start at home. If they can't allow reform here then they shouldn't be involving themselves overseas where they have a history of doing more harm than good and actually creating the problems they pretend to be opposed to."

Stuart, thanks for the head's up re Barker. He had me at the first paragraph:

"Rather than undertaking a destructive military war against China, the world's leading imperialists, United States' power elite, are instead waging a "democratic" war. Modern-day imperialists implement the double truncheon of human rights and democracy to bring "problem" states into line along with the traditional strategy of fabricating enemies to be destroyed. In this regard some nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) -- working hand-in-hand with the most influential liberal foundations -- have served a critical role in effecting imperial humanitarian interventions. Two particularly prominent examples of imperial NGOs are the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and Human Rights Watch."

Best, libby
